RS200 class

Spinnakers up at Littleton's RS200 open meeting (2008)RS200 Class

The RS200, designed by Phil Morrison, is a modern asymmetric double handed hiking dinghy, that is an ideal progression boat for inland waters and also perfect for those wishing to progress to the more challenging conditions of open coastal waters. In 2000 the RS200 replaced the Enterprise class as the club’s double handed racing dinghy, Back then with the small but growing number of club member owned boats, the club took the initiative to kick start the class by investing in six brand new club boats that it hires out to club members in line with club race series. Since its inception, the hire scheme has been successful in attracting new members on a continuous basis. The boats are replaced regularly to ensure they remain in good condition and the club is now on its third set of hire boats. If you want to get started in this exciting and lively racing dingy, more details of the hire scheme and contacts for the scheme can be found on the boat hire page.

Action at Littleton's RS200 open meeting (2008)

On the water, racing can be competitive and closely fought. Off the water the class members are friendly, welcoming and willing to give advice to new and less experienced crews. From time to time formal coaching days are organised with RS association recognised coaches brought in for the day,

To find out more about the RS200 dinghy go to the RS association website. Here you can find out about local one day open meetings, two day grand prix events and the national and eurocup championships. As an RS association member you can also access valuable on-line coaching tips and videos.

In order to concentrate the numbers of RS200s taking part in club racing, dates comprising an RS200 race series are published in advance to coincide with general handicap club racing or one day trophy events, with regular email reminders to class members taking part. Generally, two RS200 race series are organised per year, Summer and Winter, with the “Hike Harder” trophy awarded to the series the winners.
