Sail for Gold

SAIL FOR GOLD
Date: 9th June 2012

The Sail for Gold day on 9th June is to celebrate our competitive part of the sport of sailing recognising the Olympics. On this day we will be having our popular 6 hour race, 2 hour race for juniors, and other water based competitions such as windsurfing, canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding (weather dependent). The 6 hour sailing race is an endurance race where 2 crews race 1 boat changing every hour.

We will also have a 2 hour race for juniors with changes every 30 minutes. Pick your team wisely! Crew changes are watched and scored by the assembled crowd. Medals and prizes will be awarded not only for winning the competitions but also for effort and style.

The Push the boat out open day on 21st July is to celebrate our sport and support Team GB in their attempt to be the most successful sailing nation at the Olympics. We are holding an open day to try to introduce our sport to new people and would like to have as many boats out as we can. Not just to enter the club racing but for the joy of the sport. As part of the celebrations we would like to see boats dressed up for the occasion with prizes given to the most colourful and best decorated. Traditional boat decorations include bunting, flags and polished brass! Maybe that old gennaker can be turned into a giant decoration or flags flown from the shrouds. You have to be inventive to fly decorations on a Laser!

Mark the date in the diary to come to LSC and go sailing. Why not bring the family down and make a day of it. The celebrations continue into the evening with a Hog Roast and Disco.
